May Video (Popsicle Free Local Videos… We need something better)

Welcome to the first monthly installment of Popsicle Free Lokal Videos; otherwise known as if Sucker Free Sundays became local. I’ll be bringing to you all the notable videos done by/ with your local Columbus music acts. If I missed something, please don’t freak. Just email me at c86hudson@gmail.com and I’ll make sure I get it into next months. There was some great Videos from mini-docs, to 90′s pop culture references to the farewell of a local legend.  Enjoy.

Joey Hebdo

Columbus Musician, Joey Hebdo

This is a great mini-doc from On Scene Digital Printing showcasing the overfilled talent that is Joey Hebdo.  It opens with some looks into the studio, which then get blurred away from my mind the minute I hear Joey Hebdo start rolling. I would even watch 16th and pregnant, which is the sole reason why I believe every girl should be fitted with a NuvaRing at birth,  if it meant I could hear Joey Hebdo. It then transitions to a nice background bio of Joey. Solid video from OSDP and excellent job from the always charasmatic Joey Hebdo.

Keri Winter w/ Garet Camella of Indigo Wild

Restless

It’s videos like this one that reminds us how talented these artists really are. No bells no whistles…just straight musical talent that makes us wish we could have been in this room.

Audaxis

Remix of We Bang’s “Smash the Floor

I’m tied to this video so I won’t write a review. Watch it and decide what you think. (Also if you look closely you can see me…looking rather douchey but saving my grace is my Make Believe MonstersOhio ROCKS shirt)

The George Elliot Underground

Ode to Jesco

The GEU shows you how real men camp. I’m not usually a fan of camping but GEU camping sounds bad ass to me. Drunk Baseball, Beer Pong, Fireball Whiskey shots, cave running (?) and campfire rocking! Add drunk hunting and I’m in! Make sure to check out their Comfest after party album release show w/ Lost Revival  (also releasing an album), Town Monster and Estocar at Kobo Friday June 22.

The Up All Nights Promo Video

ElectricLibraLand Trailer

WHO’S READY!? God I can’t wait for this album. The Dodge Brothers are in the kitchen, cooking up some of their usual insanity, which can only mean one thing…IT’S TIME TO ROCK N ROLL!! This album, just like the video as it excellently pin-points the band, is going to be utterly chaotic Rock N ROLL fun. Another fantastic video from the always stellar Steven King, if you haven’t seen anything from him before you’re missing out. Check out his Cadaver Dogs music video. If you’re loving this as much as I am please help them with their Kickstarter for the album

The DewDroppers

Canary

1st question, how did they fit that many people in there, I’m getting claustrophobic just watching this…2:00 in and I’m dressed in a poodle dress swing dancing myself on my bed as Andrew Balazs stares on from next door. After watching this I wanna get hammered and go dancing to this. But I want it to be in a school gymnasium where I have to hide my flask. Another outstanding job by the always amazing gingerATTACK with this great series partnership by Oranjudio & BusTown. I love this series because it gives you a fresh new take on the band, watching a side of the music process not usually seen, while also letting the band play fully in the studio, which is not usually the case. gA really steps up to the plate on these, as she seems to fully grasp each individual band’s identify and create the setting to fit (See Wonder Twin Powers video. Compare). PLEASE check out all the videos from this series.

Coal Fired Bicycle

Dueling Cornholios

And for those of us who are ALWAYS searching for TP for our Bunghole-Coal Fired Bicycle has something special for you.

VIDEO Runner UP OF THE MONTH

Way Yes

Walkability

Any other month and this takes VOM but they just picked the wrong month to go against Columbus’s newest signed band. An outstanding concept even better executed, the video completely captures the setting and aroma of this already amazing song. WOW! Outstanding puppet creation by Greg Kissner and amazing puppet acting by Nicholas Manos. Great story filled with lots of fun, cozy familiar settings, and a perfect complement to the song. Great Job Beef Company Films.

VIDEO OF THE MONTH

Twenty One Pilots 2 Parter

Watch thisthen this

I’m sure you’ve already seen Part A and if you haven’t you need to. This is an epic storyline on the rise of Twenty One Pilots and even more so the epic storyline of the journey everyone should follow. If you have a dream, whether it be a rock GOD or a Sandwich Artist, follow his words and let this video be your inspiration. Because that’s what Twenty One Pilots will forever live on as, an inspiration to everyone out there that YOU CAN.

PART B-The Farwell. Newly Signed Twenty One Pilots plays their last show as a local band at LC. They kick off the song by doing what every newly signed band does… pay tribute to Rey Mysterio Jr, I’m late to the Twenty One Pilots wagon (even though I very much like this ride) so I’m not sure what the masks are for but I can only assume it’s to show appreciation to their inspiration, Mr. 5’2″ Gravity Defying Wrestling Extravagando. The video does an excellent job of capturing the entire show, from being up close and personal to the far shot of the entire crowd. It sends shivers up and down my spine knowing this to be the farewell. If this video was any indication as to what transpired at that show, then my god did Twenty One Pilots give it their all one last time to the city and fans that supported them. This video shows the love and absolute epicness of the fan support for a local band, like nothing I’ve ever seen though I hope to see again with the barrage of talent here in Columbus.  The fan crowd party even further displays this bond of band and fans holding one last embrace.

Remember don’t please that BRO whose filming every concert you’re at with your cell phone while blocking everyone behind you so you can prove to your Facebook “friends” that you’re cool. Ughh those people. If you know any videos that should be considered for June please email at c86hudson@gmail.com. I try to see everything but things do slip through the cracks from time to time. Also I won’t usually bitch out and give two videos of the Month, but this was the epic farewell for 21 pilots from Columbus band to now official everyone’s band. Maybe I’ll do one live video of the month and one music video of the month. What I’ll probably end up doing, is whatever I feel like. Yeah that sounds good and so does this Columbus music, because while videos are cool and all…seeing this live is the highest HD you can get.
